Relive the magic of many 16-bit classics with the Sega Genesis Mini
Hot on the heels of the two Nintendo Classic Mini consoles released previously comes the Sega Genesis Mini: a new throwback box that successfully replicates the look of Sega’s classic 16-bit console – slimming it down into a miniature box that lets you just plug in and play into your television. Many of the Genesis titles included may be already available via ROMs or third-party retro consoles, but the Sega Genesis Mini marks the first official one produced by Sega itself.
The Sega Genesis Mini includes 40 pre-loaded games from the 16-bit era, all bundled into an affordable package that saves players the need to spend vast amounts of time and money tracking them down on the pre-owned market. Purchasers will also get two faithfully recreated three-button Genesis control pads right out of the box, making it easy to jump into Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Altered Beast’s respective two-player modes.
The iconic console returns in smart-looking, miniaturized form
The Sega Genesis Mini visually replicates the design of Sega’s original 16-bit console, reducing it to a size that’s a lot more compact and convenient to slot into your average 2019 entertainment centre. Everything from the cartridge slot, volume slider and On/Off button are also authentically reproduced, albeit only for visual effect. The Sega Genesis Mini itself doesn’t connect to your TV through SCART, but HDMI and presents the 40 pre-loaded games via an attractive UI.
Two control pads right out of the box
Nintendo’s recent retro consoles were frequently lambasted for how they forced you to purchase a second controller separately if you wanted to play games co-op. The Sega Genesis Mini, however, rectifies this issue by coming with two wired Genesis controllers that look and feel just like the real thing. Both controllers feature a generously long lead length unlike Nintendo’s mini consoles, making it easy to take part in two-player Genesis game from the couch.
