Minecraft

Minecraft is an open world game that has no specific goals for the player to accomplish, allowing players a large amount of freedom in choosing how to play the game however, there is an achievement system. The gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to play in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and placing blocks. The game world is essentially composed of rough 3D objects—mainly cubes—that are arranged in a fixed grid pattern and represent different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, and tree trunks. While players can move freely across the world, objects and items can only be placed at fixed locations relative to the grid. Players can gather these material blocks and place them elsewhere, thus allowing for various constructions.

While it’s hard to imagine anyone yet to have experienced the block-building creativity of Minecraft, the Microsoft-owned platform continues to grow its player base year over year – especially now that it’s available on all three consoles. Whether building your ideal fantasy castle in the robust Creative mode or seeing how long you can last against the Creepers in Survival, Minecraft remains interactive family-friendly fun perfectly primed to tap into your imagination.

Players can move freely across several servers, sightseeing what other players have managed to painstakingly create over time. This just goes to show how interconnected and open the concept of Minecraft actually is. There are no explicit goals for you to accomplish or missions to complete, rather it’s a platform that encourages you to tap into your creativity and imagination to construct in a digital world. The act of mining and placing blocks is purposefully simple, with new opportunities and materials opening up as you acquire new recipes.

Either online or via local split screen, Minecraft isn’t an adventure you need to undertake alone as it supports full direct game-to-game multiplayer. This means you can share ideas and then implement them while having fun together, creating your dream structure twice as fast. This sense of community and infinite potential is what’s led to Mincecraft claim the title of ‘greatest game of all time’ for many. You can experience it on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
