PS4 Prime Day Deals – US

Prime Day 2019 is upon us, and you know what that means – some outstanding bargains to be had on PS4! Last Black Friday, Amazon led the market on PS4 prices with the Slim 500GB Spider-Man bundle for just $200 – perhaps we’ll see a similar price drop this week? Here’s our breakdown of the top bundles out there and where we think we’ll see Prime Day bargains:

    1. PS4 Slim 1TB bundle

It may not be the most exciting bundle out there, but the standalone PS4 Slim with a 1TB harddrive may end up offering the best price out there. Priced $299 in the run up to Prime Day, we expect we could well see a price drop on this and associated bundles. The 1TB option is a very helpful one given the vast library of outstanding games that the PS4 has accrued over the years.

    2. PS4 Slim 1TB – Days of Play edition bundle

This stunning limited edition take on the PS4 Slim has been turning heads, and current retails for $299. However, with some stock still lingering from the Days of Play event in early June, Amazon may be tempted to make this their flagship deal for Prime Day. A great price on a limited edition console – what more could you ask for?

    3. PS4 Pro 1TB bundle

Ever since the release of the Xbox One X, Sony have sought to make the PS4 Pro’s price more and more competitive. It now sits just $100 more than the Slim 1TB RRP, and we can expect to see some solid movement on the price on Prime Day. Even though the One X has bested the Pro in terms of raw power, the Pro remains the absolute best way to play superb PlayStation exclusives including Spider-Man, God of War and more.

Understanding the different PS4 deals we feature

We feature a huge number of PS4 deals in our price comparison table above. These are all related to brand new PS4 consoles and each deal listed is available to buy from leading US retailers like Walmart, Amazon and Ebay. The very best deals are featured at the top of the page and are marked as ‘featured deals’. We update these daily and are the deals we feel offer the very best value on the day.

As there are so many PS4 deals available, you can use the price comparison filter at the top of the page to narrow the search for the best PS4 deal for you. Here we break down the various types of PS4 deal you can compare:

    PS4 consoles without any games

The cheapest PS4 deals we include are PS4 consoles without any games or accessories thrown in. Even though these may be the cheapest route for buying a new PS4, they aren’t always the best value. If you buy games separately, these are usually more expensive than those included in a PS4 bundle. So to get more bang for your buck, look out for PS4 bundles with at least one game thrown in.

    PS4 bundles

The vast majority of the PS4 deals we list in our tables above are new PS4 consoles bundled with games and accessories. In the filter, you can choose which game you’d like to be included in the PS4 bundle, and you can even choose the accessory you also want included – like an additional PS4 controller (as you only get one Dualshock 4 controller as standard). PS4 bundles offer better value for money than buying a console outright.

    PS4 Pro deals

The PS4 Pro is the ultimate PS4 console, with the best performance of all three models available. Needless to say, the PS4 Pro isn’t the cheapest PS4 console you can buy but it’s a relatively small additional price to pay for the elite gaming experience. If you already have your heart set on buying the best PS4 console there is, we’ve found the cheapest PS4 Pro deals available today.

    PS4 Slim deals

For most gamers, the PS4 Slim is the best buy PS4 console, given the cheaper price tag compared to the powerhouse model – the PS4 Pro. You’ll be paying about $90 less for the PS4 Slim and there’s 100’s of deals for you to choose from. If you just want the cheapest PS4 console there is, go ahead and compare the best PS4 Slim deals available today.

    500GB PS4 deals

The PS4 console is available in two storage capacities – 500GB or 1TB. You can use the price comparison filter to choose how much storage you need on your PS4. The cheaper 500GB model is suited to the gamer that likes to buy physical copies of games. It still has adequate enough storage for downloading some of the very best game titles, but if digital downloads is all you care about, you’re better off opting for the PS4 with 1TB storage.

    1TB PS4 deals

For the pro gamer, or the gamer that likes to download digital PS4 games rather than buy physical copies, the 1TB storage model is the obvious choice. With twice the amount of storage of the 500GB model, the PS4 1TB isn’t actually that much more expensive. If your heart is set on getting a PS4 with the best storage, use the filter to show only 1TB PS4 deals.

    PS4 vs PS4 Pro – which should I buy?

Sony expanded on the PS4 family in late 2016 when they launched a new, high-powered edition of the generation’s best-selling console called the PS4 Pro. Boasting the ability to perform more intensive processing tasks than its Slim or Standard equivalents, the Pro is ideal for those gamers who want to experience console exclusives like Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man in all their full graphical glory.

Not only will better graphic settings be enabled (or upscaled on games released before the Pro launched), but the faster processing times will help to eliminate slowdown and framerate drops during particularly demanding games. Suddenly games will be able to load much faster so you can spend less time waiting and more time immersing yourself in all that the PS4 eco-system has to offer.

Though the Pro isn’t capable of running games or playing Blu-ray DVDs at a 4K resolution, it is able to display certain streaming services such as Netflix in 4K. While possibly not of high priority for most people weighing up their thoughts on the ‘PS4 vs PS4 Pro’ debate, self-confessed boxset bingers will see a huge leap in visual quality with the Pro.

The downside of the Pro, perhaps unsurprisingly, is the cost. While still reasonably priced (especially when combined in a bundle found on Consoles.com), the Pro will continue to cost considerably more than the Slim version. Anyone wanting to upgrade from an original PS4 or PS4 Slim can obviously offset this cost somewhat by trading in their original model. However, as it stands, on its own, the PS4 Pro is much pricier than the Slim as a result of the unit’s extra processing power.

No matter which PS4 model or bundle you choose, the basics you get with the console are the same. In the box you will find the PS4 video game console, a DualShock 4 controller, an AC power cord, a HDMI cable, a micro-USB charging cable and a mono headset. PS4 Dualshock 4 Controller

Take control with the DualShock 4 v2 controller

The DualShock 4 control pad might look the same as those that have come before it, but it comes packed with new features. As well as enhanced analog sticks and trigger buttons, the new touchpad opens up new ways of playing. A built-in speaker lets you hear sound effects directly from the controller, and the integrated light bar doesn’t just change color based on in-game events; it also works with PlayStation VR. The controller that comes packaged with the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim is the DualShock 4 v2, which further refines this exceptional piece of gaming engineering.

    Fantastic lineup of games

No matter what genre of games you favor, an exciting world of gaming awaits you on the PS4. Exclusive games like Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, The Last Guardian and Horizon: Zero Dawn sit alongside critically acclaimed franchises like Madden, Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed. You can even take your gaming to the next level an incredible lineup of PS VR games including Resident Evil VII Biohazard, Farpoint and Batman Arkham VR.

    PlayStation 4 Exclusive Games

    Tracking the PS4’s eventful timeline

As is the case with most consoles, development on the PS4 almost certainly started once the PS3 was shipped and out the door in Japan as of November, 2006. From then on we wouldn’t hear any truly tangible rumbles until a full five years later, where circling rumours served to ignite the PS4’s timeline proper. It’s been an interesting journey since then, one which we have handily covered for you here.

    First rumors appear

Sony fires the starting pistol on the new generation of consoles when, in July 2011, rumors began appearing linking the PS4 with a Q4 2012 release date. Little was known of the console at the time, other than expected graphical and hardware improvements.

    PS4 Reveal

    PS4 Revealed

A couple of months after the rumored release date of the PS4 has passed, Sony officially announced the console, with some hardware specs and early gameplay footage also unveiled.

    PS4 undercuts XB1 at E3

With the PS4 and its major rival the Xbox One the talk of 2013’s E3, Sony strikes a major blow early by revealing their console to be substantially cheaper than the Xbox One, which saw its price driven up by coming included with Kinect.

    Mark those calendars!

The PS4’s release date is officially unveiled.

    PS4 Sales

    The world goes PS4 crazy

The PS4 launches to immediate and unprecedented success. Over one million pre-orders were placed for the console worldwide, and in the US alone, a total of one million PS4 consoles were sold in a 24 hour time period.

Metal Gear Solid Limited Edition PS4

First limited edition PS4 is launched

The first ever PS4 special edition console, showcasing Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, is launched.

    PS4's virtual reality future

    PS4's virtual reality future

Sony signposts the future for the console and perhaps the gaming industry in general with the announcement of Project Morpheus, the codename for their virtual reality headset and camera peripherals.

    PS4 Playstation Now

    PS4 Project Morpheus

2015 marks the introduction of PS Now, which enables gamers in the US to stream classic games via the cloud.

    PS4 World Wide Sales

    PS4 sales continue to impress

The PS4 is responsible for the “the strongest and fastest growth in PlayStation history” according to Sony, as the number of units shifted is reported to have exceeded 20 million.

    1TB Playstation 4 announced

Recognising the limitations of a 500GB hard drive on a console where downloads are common, Sony announce a 1TB model.

    Project Morpheus gets renamed

In an unsurprising move, Project Morpheus is renamed simply PS VR.

    PS VR

    PS VR unveiled

Sony’s futuristic VR headset is unveiled in early 2016, along with tech specs. An impressive 1920 x 1080 resolution (split across both eyes) is augmented with a set of nine LEDs that enable the VR camera to track the player’s position, making for an immersive gaming experience.

    Playstation Neo

Rumors begin to surface that Sony are working on a new console. Some suggest it is simply the PS5, while others believe it won’t represent a new generation of consoles, but will be an improved version of the PS4. This new console is nicknamed the PlayStation Neo.

    PS4 Slim

PS4 Slim Leak: Real or Fake?

Found on Gumtree, the UK’s equivalent of Craig’s List, by Twitter user @shortmaneighty2, the PS4 Slim appears to be exactly what the name suggests – a slimmed down version of the new console.

The leak creates questions over an upcoming PlayStation Meeting where the PlayStation Neo was expected to be announced. Could the Slim be the new console, rather than the Neo? Could both possibly be real?

    Leaked PS4 Slim is real

An unboxing video from Sony confirms that the PS4 Slim leaked was in fact the real deal.

    PS4 Pro

PS4 Slim and Pro officially announced

Sony officially announce their overhaul of the PS4 family of consoles. The original PS4 was, to all intents and purposes, replaced by the Slim, which offered the same technical specs in a smaller package. The PS4 Pro, set at a higher price point, offers gamers higher definitions and quicker loading times. However, it is still a PS4, with confirmation that no exclusive games or content would be launched for the Pro.

    External hard drive support added

With the internal memories of the PS4 Slim and Pro still not enough for the keenest of gamers, Sony announced that the PlayStation would now support external hard drives to give players additional space on which to store games and other files.

    PS4 Pro price drop

As the Xbox One X launches and takes the Pro’s crown as the most powerful home console, Sony move to drop the price of the Pro, helping it achieve some excellent sales numbers over the festive period.

    Sales finally begin to slow

After years of utter domination and enormous sales figures, Sony announce that for the fiscal year of 2017, the PS4 sold 17 million units. Still a fantastic rate of sales which means it outsold both the Switch and the Xbox, but one that suggests that the PS4 may finally be hitting its peak in terms of popularity.

    500 million milestone

    500 million milestone

Sony announce that the PlayStation hardware family has sold 500 million units, an incredible milestone that is matched only by Nintendo. They celebrate with the launch of a very limited run of translucent blue PS4s, which sell out almost instantly.

    Happy birthday!

The PS4 celebrates its fifth birthday in style. With sales of almost 90 million units, the PS4 has represented a reversal in Sony’s fortunes compared the Microsoft’s Xbox line. The PS4 now stands alone as the fourth best selling home console ever, behind its older brothers the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Speaking of the original, Sony were obviously feeling sentimental as they passed so many major milestones in 2018, as they launched a shrunken down version of the PlayStation with games pre-loaded for nostalgia fans everywhere.
