The longstanding Pokémon series arrived on Nintendo Switch in 2019 with a bang, with Pokémon Shield being the first true JRPG entry to feature full HD graphics, an all-new Dynamaxing system and even more ways to catch them all. Doing so has never been more fun thanks to various new creature designs that remain exclusive to this generation, as well as a new open world-esque setting called the Wild Area that enables you to catch and train Pokémon far beyond your level.

This time around it’s the UK-inspired region of Galar your player-character will be exploring, working your way from town to town and defeating gym leaders to prove yourself the very best (like no one ever was). After selecting either Grookey (Grass), Scorbunny (Fire) or Sobble (Water) as your starter Pokémon your adventure will begin. These three critters will remain at the heart of the journey throughout, evolving and learning powerful moves that will help make you the ultimate trainer.

Zamazenta acts as the respective legendary Pokémon and cover star for Pokémon Shield, free to openly battle and catch after you defeat every gym leader and take on the elite four. It only represents the tip of the iceberg, however, in terms of all the new creatures present in Pokémon Shield – and this carries on should you choose to pick up the DLC expansion pass where you will venture to the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra.
